This custom home was designed with the goal of making it easy and enjoyable to raise a family, entertain guests, and stay connected with the outdoors. We’ve had that privilege for about 15 years and hope the next owners continue making even more great memories. While the home approaches 7,000 square feet of heated/cooled space, it was designed to hide much of that. This begins with the mission-styling, which uses a mix of materials on the exterior and careful placement of the home on the ~3/4-acre property that was able to tuck it around existing trees. While a half-circle driveway approaches the front door, the garage is accessed from a second driveway and placed where it remains largely unnoticed.

The back of the house has a concave wedge shape, shielding the 1200 square feet of outdoor living space from neighboring homes to create an amazingly private and intimate environment that has allowed us to appreciate the natural beauty of the property.

The chef-grade kitchen was designed for cooking and entertaining, providing all the cabinet and countertop space one could need. Dual built-in refrigerator-freezers and a walk-in pantry ensure there is never a shortage of food, while dual wall ovens provide capacity to cook for the masses.

A massive 15-foot arching island of 3 cm granite wraps around a secondary island that contains the gas cooktop with downdraft.

Arched maple cabinets nested in brick and stone provide a visual anchor to the space.

The kitchen integrates with one of the three living spaces, allowing the cooks to still interact with family or guests. The 20x25-foot family room was designed around a wood-burning brick-and-stone fireplace and more built-in cabinets, including a long window seat with lots of storage.

The vaulted living room is a more formal, but still comfortable space. A wall of windows brings in natural light from the backyard, and an adjacent wall has a large stone-faced wood-burning fireplace and built-in cabinets.

Look up and you’ll see a beamed ceiling with a unique trim treatment and open-railed staircase and balcony.

The 600 square foot deck with curved railing can be accessed from the kitchen, living room or master bedroom, and was recently updated with CoolDeck composite. Supported by steel post-and-beam construction, it is suspended almost 20 feet above the ground, creating a sense of being in the tree canopy during the summer, and providing clear views of the surrounding hills throughout the winter. The roofline provides shade by late afternoon, making it comfortable to enjoy family dinners even on hot summer days. A natural gas outlet ensures the grilling is never interrupted.

We tried to make this room as functional, yet appealing as possible. Large windows bring natural light onto the walls that are lined with plenty of cabinet storage, including a stack specifically sized to conceal laundry baskets and the central vac hose. There are two built-in desktops, a large butcher block countertop and a deep sink.

The dedicated office (and prior nursery) is immediately off the master bedroom, making it easy to focus on work without being too removed from everyone. It was designed with cabinets and underfloor conduit to keep equipment (like printers) and cables hidden, and French doors to keep it feeling open. This room shares a wall with one of the master closets that could be easily opened to create a massive walk-in closet.

This is located on the bottom level, but is an area that can hardly be described as a basement. This room has 11-foot ceilings with beams that match the main living space and raised-panel wainscoting as an additional detail. The den contains the third wood-burning fireplace and a sizable kitchenette with beverage fridge, microwave and sink. This area was originally designed to serve as the ‘pool house’, as it opens directly onto the covered patio. However, we fell in love with the trees that would need to be removed to make room for a pool so that was never added.

The dedicated eight-seat media room has stadium seating to ensure everyone has a clear view of the 100-inch screen and can hear the 7.1 in-wall surround sound. It includes a wet bar, with beverage fridge, microwave and sink. The stadium platform is removable for future conversion of the space into an art studio, workout room or other multi-purpose area with an awesome view.

The 600 square foot backyard patio mirrors the crescent shape of the upper balcony. Thanks to the waterproofed ceiling, dual fans to keep air moving on hot days, and café lighting for both function and ambiance, you can enjoy the space anytime regardless of the weather.

Watch something on the suspended TV , read a book or listen to the sounds of nature while lounging in a hanging chair.

The unique cylindrical columns were inspired by Roman ruins in Italy. It also includes a natural gas outlet for a second grill.

The wooded backyard has almost 50 mature oak trees that keep nature close, while shading the custom three-story 160 square foot cedar-sided playhouse and 15-foot Spring-Free trampoline (which can convey). Loads of topsoil were trucked in and a full in-ground sprinkler system was installed to support the fescue lawn.
